|Premier League Player of the Week: Manchester City’s David Silva
| sbo666 Manchester City midfielder David Silva gave a brilliant performance capped by a stunning goal in Sunday’s match against Huddersfield Town, making him Maryam Naz’s pick for The Offside Rule’s Premier League player of the week.
An eye for a passSilva’s ability to pick out players in more advanced positions is second to none. In Sunday’s game he was in the thick of the action, frequently providing superb crosses for Gabriel Jesus. His deliveries were inch perfect but he also unlocked Huddersfield with defence-splitting passes. Silva kept City’s attacking trio ticking, giving them the space to exploit the defensive vulnerability ahead.
Set-piece specialistsbo666 Silva’s forte may be his ability to play the perfect pass, but it would be a mistake not to acknowledge his set piece prowess. A stunning well-placed freekick in the 47th minute evaded Ben Hamer’s reach and was his first goal scored directly from a freekick for City. Silva is proving to be just as menacing with the ball at his feet in the attacking third as he is prolific with it in within the confines of central midfield.
Team playerPerhaps Silva’s best asset is his ability to work with others. It would be easy for Silva to be more selfish in front of goal, but he seems to thrive off finding spaces to feed balls into for others. In last season’s campaign he picked up 11 assists and scored nine goals. His game is balanced, he scores freely but is also extremely adept at linking up with others.
Honorary mentionsThere were other outstanding performances deserving of an honorary mention. Silva’s teammate Sergio Aguero sbo666 was one of the stand-out players in the same game, picking up his 13th hat-trick for City. Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso, Tottenham Hotspur’s Lucas Moura, and Liverpool’s James Milner also played brilliantly.
